Giving Yourself Breaks

December calender with text reading "Giving Yourself Breaks" and the SIlver Magpie logo

This week is one of the busiest times of the year. Between the travel, the holiday parties, the family celebrations, and more, there’s very little time to work in or on your business. That’s where giving yourself breaks comes into the picture.

Now giving yourself breaks sounds like a dream to many. If you’ve been using all your spare time to build a business, taking even a tiny step back is anxiety-inducing. However, burnout waits down that road. Regardless of how the passion for the topic, people need time to recharge.

Giving yourself a break doesn’t mean that your business grounds to a halt. This post is an example. I wrote it three weeks before publication. Then it was scheduled to run on the correct day at the correct time. It is also part of a large batch, where I wrote out five different blog posts and just as many Web Tip Wednesdays.

All that batch means is that I don’t have to worry about my regular posts during December and over New Year’s. That frees up my time. Should I find myself with a bit of extra time somewhere, it means I can spend it on money making tasks or passion projects. That certainly sounded more relaxing as I wrote this blog post.

As the year comes to a close, it’s time to do the planning and setting up for the new year. Not worrying about tasks you typically do daily or weekly during the chaos is a major stress reliever. Batch work is great for this. However, when it comes to giving yourself breaks over this holiday season, you have to ask am I running my business, or is my business running me?
