The web has transformed selling for every industry. Companies are currently in transition to a more web-based consumer. Rather than asking a neighbor, people ask online reviews or social media whether a product is worth the money.
One of the things many people check is a business’s social profile. Lack of account or lack of activity can turn a consumer off relatively quickly. They may even think the business has closed. This makes the first step of claiming accounts vital.
Step one includes claiming accounts on all the major social media sites. These include things like a Facebook* page, Twitter* account, Google+*, Pinterest* account, Instagram*, and so on. The idea is to get as consistent a name on all these things as possible, so someone who knows you on one social media account can find you on others. I found the Name Vine* website useful for this.
Step two involves linking the accounts. Many of the abovementioned can link to each other and automatically post to each other. Carefully consider which accounts post to each other so there is no duplication of content in initial postings. The other benefit of this linking is it serves to verify the accounts on the different social profiles.
Step three involves linking to the website. Most social media profiles have a place for websites, so make sure that’s filled in. Then go to the website and link the social media profiles to icons in the header, footer, or both. In WordPress*, for example, profiles can also be linked to the website’s backend, so the website itself can post to social media when new content is created.
Now, having all these social media sounds overwhelming. The idea is to pick one social site and get to know it. Content on the other media sites can be auto-posted items from either the website or the social media profile of choice. Eventually, there is time to learn how to use them properly or hire an assistant to manage them.
