Learning to Earn

The world has reached a very innovative period. In response to this, both work and out of work cultures are evolving. It’s no longer enough to be loyal and do the same job day in and day out. If there’s no learning, then there’s no progress.

Almost every corporation promises learning opportunities. Once someone settles in though, building in the time to learn becomes more difficult. Humans like routines, and changing routines is difficult. Nine to five is one of the most rigid routines out there.

Another thing companies do is attempt to incentivize learning. It usually goes something like ‘get the certificate, get a pay raise’ or ‘keep the certification current or lose the job.’ One certainly sounds more appealing than the other! Continuous learning is the best shot at keeping ahead of that demand.

Then there’s the small business environment. Small business owners have the choice to learn, outsource, or lose sales. Learning is usually the cheaper option of the three. Many business owners run their own social media for example, and social media means sales leads these days. Therefore, investing in a social media learning course or a sales writing course makes sense.

Solopreneurs are pretty much required to learn. Even the people who claim to be making 7 figures not working have to do something to stay current, otherwise, their system collapses. For the rest, learning pays them back as well. For example, a virtual assistant might learn a seemingly complicated skill so they can offer it to clients at a premium price.

New, in-demand skills can hold a high market value whether traditionally employed or freelancing. It is therefore in everyone’s best interest to curate a curiosity about what’s around them and be willing to pursue new skills. Otherwise, people will be left behind.
