Life has a funny way of getting away from people and losing balance. Thing is, we all want to improve our lot in life, and one of the quickest ways to do that is to obtain new knowledge. This new knowledge lets us move up ladders or even into new positions.
I personally am a learning fanatic and tend to pick up whatever catches my attention, even if I know I will probably never do it in a job capacity. There are courses on things I’ve never watched in my library simply because I’ve picked up so many over time.
Eventually, this leads to having to hit a balance. After all, one cannot live one’s life solely to study. Things like work, cooking, and relationships require attention too. Therefore, striking the balance on how much time can realistically be spent learning is important.
I find I had to designate specific times for learning rather than a specific amount of time. The necessary flexibility of what I do means I don’t have the regular rhythm of a nine to five. Therefore, it made sense for me to combine learning with my time spent driving. Instead of listening to music, I listen to courses.
Other people strike a different life balance. They’ll give themselves an hours goal on how much they want to accomplish in a week, and write memos on their calendar. Another option is to get other people involved so that it’s a social activity and everyone learns together. What works depends on lifestyle choices.
Learning is essential to the modern world, but it should never be the only thing happening. There must be a balance, otherwise, other parts of life get out of hands. Planning out a reasonable strategy when learning is always a good idea. What good is learning and stepping up in the world if we lose parts of ourselves along the way?
