When a business first starts social media, having all the feeds to fill with content is intimidating. Often there’s so many options of post series to do, so many different rules for platforms, and so many different graphics styles. At some point, it just becomes too much, and business owners no longer want to touch their social presence.
Instead of trying to do everything at once, it’s time to start in one spot. The entire Roman empire was not built in a day, and neither is an all-encompassing social media presence. Instead, pick a platform. Whether it’s the one in your social media comfort zone or not, try to make sure it’s somewhere the people you would like to work with will be.
Now it’s time to build out a post series on that platform. Building something predictable really helps both you and your customers know when things will appear. Start with one series and make it weekly. Once that one feels easier, add another series.
At the point where there are four or five series running on a given platform or page, it’s time to build out the next platform. Pick up the next platform and start thinking about a series that would work for its rules. Start with one series and build out again to multiple series over time.
The timeline for how long it takes to build is individual. Each person will hit their comfort stride at various times. There may even be a time where post looping and automation come into play. At some point, it may even be time to hire out social media.
However, that should not be an immediate concern. A solopreneur can do their own social media for as long as they like without question. Add in the unique personality factor, and the personal branding may even stand out a little better.
