When we’re running personal brands, the battle cry is all about authenticity right now. To some, automation is the antithesis of authenticity. However, there comes the point of necessity when it is time to set up automation in the interest of protecting personal time.
Solopreneurship
When I’m running my business, I’m running solo. All the decisions are my call. Consequently, all the tasks are also mine. Now, there are a lot of hours in the day, but I like spending some of them on something other than work. That leaves me a couple of options to maximize my time.
Automation versus Outsourcing
My choice is to set up automation or outsourcing. Automation requires a lot of upfront investment to do well. However, once it’s set up, it needs no encouragement. It simply does. These days, there are a lot of options for different programs, it’s only an issue to choose.
The other possibility is outsourcing. Outsourcing involves finding the right person for the job and paying them, anywhere in the world. It may take time to find the right person for the job, and then they need to be paid regularly. Of course, the option to inception and outsource the automation set up is there.
The Time Investment
Upfront, both outsourcing and automation require time. Once established though, they give time back to busy solopreneurs over the long run. The effort to set up automation allows me to show up in more places. Outsourcing does something similar. Over time, that can equate to significant savings. It just may seem daunting when it’s initially researched.
Parting Thoughts
Taking the time to set up automation offers back more overall. I manage most of my recurring posts through SmarterQueue* which means my posts happen more often, and I can reuse some of the items I’ve published previously. Overall, automation is a fantastic way for solopreneurs to get some time back.
