The internet works in numerous ways to make or break a business. One of those ways is through reviews in public forums. These have the power to sway consumers, help people find your business, and send them to buy.

A review can be positive, negative, or neutral. Obviously, positive, rave reviews are fantastic. The positivity can draw other people in and prompt them to buy. They can answer questions and assuage concerns. Most of all, they add to the general good impression of your business.

A neutral review can be an asset as well when handled appropriately. Every business owner understands not everyone is going to love the product/service. The neutral review becomes an asset when it’s honest and responded to kindly. This shows potential customers that reviews are not being curated for positivity. It also shows that other customers are more like them.

Negative reviews require the most care to turn into an asset. The first step is always to take a step back and consider. Posting the first thing that comes to mind is rarely a good idea. Instead, a careful, measured response offering a solution or fix tends to be received better. Heck, the person may even change the review.

Before considering how to handle a review, there must be reviews. That’s something to incorporate into calls to action and images on social media posts. If there are physical products involved, it can be part of the shipping package as say a card. These little reminds prompt people to leave reviews, even if they are brief.

Even one review on one platform can raise a business’s public profile. By handling all reviews appropriately, that one becomes many. With many, a business has more sway when customers go looking before they buy. After all, that’s the end game, helping people decide.
