It’s All About Time

Everyone has a limited number of hours in the day, whether they’re eight or eighty. The choices made on where to spend time are vital, especially when there are so many choices. On average, for example, a survey of adults in the U. S. revealed 30% of adults are concerned about how much time they spend on Facebook. For an entrepreneur, it is all about making the consistent choice to do what they want.

There is always something for an entrepreneur to do, especially for a solopreneur. These lists are a source of consternation for many, as is finding the balance between work and life. This is where the idea of choices comes in.

For the purposes of my sanity, I make lists. I have a week, month, and six-month list that I keep on my phone. When I have a couple minutes, I look at the week list to see if there’s anything I can knock out. Most of the time, I need an hour chunk to do things on the list though, which means scheduling. I usually schedule work in two-hour chunks on my calendar so I can guard that time.

Once I get business time, I use an app to make sure my phone is not a distraction. It’s called Forest*, and essentially it makes sure I don’t leave that screen for the set amount of time (critical apps can be whitelisted). I generally don’t need a distraction block on my computer, though Forest* can be used on laptops as well. Usually all that’s left then is to open my documents, plug in the instrumental Celtic music, and get to work.

I work when I can, whether it’s morning, evening, or in between since my students need me at different times each week. I really prefer working in the afternoon, so I try to set up my hours then. It’s all about finding a time that works for work in the end.
