Faceless brands no longer thrive in modern business. While this may seem like a bad thing, it’s actually beneficial to consumers. As social consciousness grows, smart business brands grow right along with it. In turn, the movement to be your values allows more creative expression and opportunities to garner loyal customers.

Businesses are started for a reason. Often this reason has to do with a need in the founder’s life. As businesses grow, many find it harder to get back to that reason. So, they focus on their quality and experience. Since everyone else is doing the same thing, a business gets lost in the noise.

A small business usually only has one face, versus the many associated with multimillion-dollar companies. That one public face though has an easier time with the idea of being your values. After all, one person has an easier time agreeing with themselves!

Values should flow down into everything that’s done for a brand. That doesn’t mean every post needs to be about authenticity or respect or whatever your core values are. Posting and acting in a way that shows those values matters more.

In the age of the internet, people do research what they buy. That can be problematic since that research reaches back decades now. Companies must show consistently that they are being their values, not just saying them. Otherwise, businesses get into trouble with the court of public opinion.

It may sound like a challenge to be your values, but really its all about living what’s said and saying what the brand holds dear. Given enough time and contemplation, these values should be clear, especially in small business. Articulate and show why the brand is the brand.
